Fully Managed Hosting Solutions

Crosspoint has extensive experience in providing high capacity hosting solutions to customers demanding the highest levels of reliability, scalability and capacity. Our managed hosting customers range from fast growing start ups to large international corporations.

We also have a specialist niche in hosting sports websites which demand the highest levels of performance, reliablity and scalability (imagine the impact of losing coverage during the crucial seconds of a match)!   As a result of the high standards our customers demand our hosting platform has been engineered to be resilient so that single points of failure will not affect your service.  This philosophy is allied to our real time monitoring system which ensures that should any issues arise they are quickly dealt with.

Many of the larger sites we host are based on platforms consisting of multiple web, application and database servers, all run through our rock solid load balanced hosting platform. Traffic on these site often bursts to hundreds of Mbit/sec and serve tens of millions of page impressions per day.

Key Features

  • Network Resilience - We provide a multi-homed, BGP routed network to ensure your service remains available even if we lose connectivity to the Internet from one of our transit providers.  We operate a variety of GigE feeds from Tier1 providers and also UK-only route providers to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability.
  • Network Capacity Management - We continuously collect statistics on our hosts and networks which we use to analyze performance, spot trends and plan capacity increases. By actively managing our network we ensure our clients maintain the capacity they require.
  • Clustering - With single server architectures any failure also means the failure of your service as a whole. Our web and database clusters provide uninterrupted service providing there is at least one functional server in the cluster.
  • Load Balancing - We use load balancing to distribute traffic across our web clusters. This ensures a responsive user experience even in the face of high traffic levels.  Another limitation of single server architectures is the engineering cost required to maintain service as demand increases. Additional web servers can be quickly introduced into our clusters to manage growth in popularity of your service.
  • Security  - We operate network, host and application level security to protect your services from network attacks.
  • Stable Software Platform - Your website or service runs on a particular operating system. We drew on many years of operating system experience when we specified our Linux platform.  Thousands of man hours of Linux configuration and tuning experience guarantee your service will work in practice as well as in theory.
  • Stable Hardware Platform - Your hardware platform provides the foundation for your software platform. We continuously evaluate and refine our hardware platform. Our current configuration uses, RAID, clustering and load balancing to ensure quality of service.
  • Backups - Loss of data can be catastrophic often the last consideration. We offer all of our clients a backup strategy to ensure important data is never lost.
  • Operational Monitoring - Our infrastructure is monitored at all times by our operational monitoring system. This ensures that we are alerted to and resolve operational problems before they impact your business.
  • Web Log Analysis - We analyse your web logs and provide daily, weekly and monthly performance reports.  Metrics measured include page impressions, unique visitors, breakdown of popularity of site areas and site referrals.
  • Data Centre Resilience  - Thankfully, entire data centre outages are rare. However, we currently operate out of 3 data centres and we are equipped to rapidly replicate your infrastructure at a second hosting facility should that ever be necessary.

Example Configuration

The diagram below shows a typical hosting configuration we build for our clients:

 The setup consists of:

  • Redundant pair of BGP routers taking transit feeds from multiple suppliers, providing reliable and resilient bandwidth.
  • Redundant pair of load balancers distributing website traffic across a cluster of webservers. The load balancers constantly monitor the webservers and automatically adjust the traffic distribution in the event of a webserver failing.
  • Redundant set of database servers providing a scalable level of performance.

The key benefits our configurations provide are:

  • Highly resilient to hardware failures
  • Scalable architecture which can grow with the application.
